Care of the climbing plant Jasminum polyanthum or Pink jasmine

The genus Jasminum, family Oleaceae, comprises 200 species of shrubs and climbing plants native to Eurasia. Some species are: Jasminum polyanthum, Jasminum odoratissimum, Jasminum nudiflorum, Jasminum nitidum, Jasminum mesnyi, Jasminum humile, Jasminum officinale.

Common names: Pink jasmine, White jasmine. This species is native to China.

They are climbing plants that reach 5 meters (16.4 feet) in height. They have slender stems and opposite dark green leaves. They produce many pink flower buds that open in spring producing starry scented white flowers.

They are used in pergolas, walls, fences and in pots for balconies and terraces (they need supports). They are also used as indoor plants in brightly lit areas of the house.

Jasminum polyanthum can grow in full sun or semi-shade exposures. They do not resist frost.

The soil can be a normal garden substrate or a substrate for indoor plants with 15% manure or compost and well drained.

Water frequently so that the substrate is slightly damp but not watery. It's important not to over water.

Prune dry leaves and wilted flowers after flowering. Prune lightly in winter to control growth.

It's advisable to fertilize with mineral fertilizer every 15 days from mid-winter to mid-summer.

They are sensitive plants to excessive watering, which can rot the roots.

They propagate in summer from semi-woody cuttings.
