The genus Euryops, family Asteraceae, comprises 100 species of flowering plants native to Africa and the Arabian peninsula. Some species are: Euryops pectinatus, Euryops annae, Euryops virgineus, Euryops mucosus, Euryops walterorum. Common names: Grey-leaved euryops, Woolly resin bush, Golden daisy bush, Golden Euryops, Golden Shrub Daisy. This species is native to South Africa. They are shrubs with a single trunk and rounded bearing that reach 1 meter (3.28 feet) in height. The abundant clipped leaves are grayish-green. The flowers are yellow daisies 5 cm in diameter. They bloom from early fall to spring. Grey-leaved euryops is used in gardens with a Mediterranean climate to form groups and in pots for terraces, balconies and patios. Euryops pectinatus needs full sun exposure and protected from the cold. It does not resist temperatures below 10 ºC (50 ºF). Golden daisy bush is quite rustic plant that can grow in any well-drained soil that is not limestone. Woolly resin bush needs little water and are well resistant to drought; water every 3 weeks in spring and fall and every 2 weeks in summer; in winter they keep up with the rains. Prune in spring to keep it compact and invigorate the plant. Euryops pectinatus is a fast growing plant, easy to grow and resistant to pests and diseases. Golden Euryops propagates in spring by cuttings from young shoots. |
