The genus Crassula, family Crassulaceae, includes 600 species of succulent plants native to southern Africa. Some species are: Crassula marnierana, Crassula falcata, Crassula capitella, Crassula Buddha's Temple (cultivar), Crassula arborescens, Crassula ovata, Crassula tetragona, Crassula arta, Crassula multicava, Crassula radicans, Crassula Coralita, Crassula picturata, Crassula corymbulosa, Crassula perforata, Crassula muscosa. Common names: Jade Necklace, Chinese Pagoda, Baby Necklace, Jade Necklace Vine, Tom thumb, Jade Necklace Plant, Worm Plant. This species is native to Eastern Cape Province, South Africa. They are slow-growing succulent plants that reach 20 cm (7.87") in height. The curious thick and rounded leaves appear around the stem (they look like the beads on a necklace). They produce small white flowers in terminal racemes. Jade Necklace is used as a houseplant in hanging pots as well as on terraces and balconies. Crassula marnieriana is a plant of easy cultivation that needs a illuminated exposure; if grown in full sun the leaves turn reddish. Worm Plant can be grown in any type of well-drained soil. Water moderately with little water, waiting for the substrate to dry. Fertilize monthly with mineral fertilizer in spring and summer. Jade Necklace Vine is a plant resistant to pests and diseases, but not to excess watering. Chinese Pagoda propagates easily by stem cuttings in spring. |
