Care of the plant Chrysanthemum hybridum or Fleurette Mum

The genus Chrysanthemum, family Asteraceae, comprises 30 species of perennial plants native to Asia and Northeast Europe. Some species are: Chrysanthemum hybridum, Chrysanthemum x hortorum, Chrysanthemum morifolium, Chrysanthemum indicum, Chrysanthemum multicaule.

Common names: Fleurette Mum, Mums, Chrysanths. This species is native to Asia.

They are perennial plants with branching stems that can reach 80 cm (2.62 feet) in height. The leaves are lobed and dark green. There are numerous varieties with simple or compound flowers, varied shapes (daisy, anemone, pompom) and various colors (white, yellow, salmon, orange, etc). They usually bloom in the fall. As a cut flower it can be found all year round.

They are used in pots for balconies, terraces and patios or for flower beds in the garden.

Chrysanthemum hybridum can be grown in full sun or light shade exposure.

The soil should contain compost mixed with garden substrate and heather soil.

Water regularly so that the soil is a little damp; never flood or allow the substrate to dry completely.

Prune the tips of the stems when the plant reaches 20 cm (7.87") in height. The buds that are born on the stem must be removed so that the terminal bud produces a beautiful flower.

They propagate by cuttings. The tender shoots that appear at the base of the mother plant are used.
