Ceanothus maritimus is an evergreen shrub with a creeping or erect habit that does not exceed 1 meter (3.28 feet) in height. The small oval leaves are bright green. The abundant and attractive blue or white flowers (slightly scented) appear in clusters. It blooms in late winter and spring. Maritime ceanothus is used to cover sunny slopes, in borders and as isolated specimens. It is ideal for coastal gardens. Ceanothus maritimus grows well in full sun exposure and also in semi-shade. It has good resistance to frost. Bluff California Lilac grows in sandy, rocky, poor, saline soils and even in clay soils. Water moderately all year round, waiting for the substrate to dry; it has some resistance to drought. Fertilize in early spring with mineral fertilizer to encourage flowering. Prune lightly after flowering to maintain a compact appearance. Maritime California Lilac is a plant resistant to the usual pests and diseases. Propagated from seeds sown in spring; soak seeds in hot water a few minutes before sowing. |
